Qualcomm revealed technical details for the Hexagon NPU featured in its upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 flagship chipset.

The new silicon enables AI agents to run directly on mobile devices rather than through the cloud. This on-device approach enhances data security and eliminates network latency for faster performance.

The NPU architecture includes a specialized Element Accelerator and support for Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) machine learning models. Qualcomm plans a full reveal of the chipset at the annual Snapdragon Summit on September 22.

The move aligns with a broader corporate strategy to expand AI capabilities into data centers and other non-mobile sectors.
