Novo Nordisk secured approval from China's National Medical Products Administration for Wegovy to treat metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). This makes Wegovy the first and only GLP-1 receptor agonist available for this serious form of fatty liver disease in the country.
The new indication applies specifically to adults with MASH and moderate to severe liver fibrosis. This approval expands Wegovy's clinical use in China beyond weight management and cardiovascular health.
The treatment targets a growing patient population in China where fatty liver disease is increasingly prevalent. It provides a new therapeutic option for a progressive condition that has historically faced limited treatment availability.
