Nuance Labs, a startup founded by former Apple researchers, has secured $50 million in a Series A funding round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners. The round included participation from Nvidia's venture arm, NVentures, as well as Accel, South Park Commons, and Define Ventures.
The company is developing AI models to enable more natural, face-to-face conversations with AI avatars, aiming to eliminate the latency and awkwardness common in current systems. Instead of stitching together separate text, voice, and video models, Nuance is building a single, unified audiovisual model to better capture human nuances like microexpressions and real-time reactions. The new capital will be used to expand its research and development team.
