Novo Nordisk filed a lawsuit against Eli Lilly in New Jersey federal court for alleged false and misleading advertising of GLP-1 drugs. The complaint targets nationwide marketing campaigns for Lilly’s weight-loss drug Zepbound and diabetes treatment Mounjaro.
Novo Nordisk asserts that Lilly uses outdated clinical trial data to gain an unfair advantage. The lawsuit alleges Lilly compares its highest drug doses to lower, less effective doses of Wegovy and Ozempic while ignoring newer FDA approvals for higher-dose Novo Nordisk products.
The legal action seeks a court order to stop the advertisements and requires Lilly to launch a corrective advertising campaign. This move follows an ignored cease-and-desist letter and marks a significant escalation in the competition for the global obesity drug market.
