Danish pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk shortened its everyday name to Novo. The rebranding includes the new slogan Lasting Health Starts Now, an updated logo, and corporate principles called The Novo Way. Management designed the change to increase brand memorability in a consumer-driven market.
The strategic shift follows intense pressure from primary competitor Eli Lilly. Novo held 38.8% of the obesity drug market in the second quarter. Eli Lilly controlled 60.9% of the sector during the same period. The new operational framework seeks to increase speed and competitiveness to reclaim the company's leading position.
Market reaction to the announcement appeared positive on September 14. Novo shares rose approximately 1% in U.S. pre-market trading. The stock increased nearly 2% on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. The CEO will provide a detailed corporate strategy at an upcoming Capital Markets Day.
