Nio announced the full connection of its Silk Road battery-swap route on September 26, 2026. The corridor spans 3,605 kilometers and includes 33 swap stations. It enables Nio users to travel across all provincial-level administrative regions in mainland China using battery swaps alone.
The route includes the world’s first fully solar-powered, off-grid battery-swap station, which recently opened and serves as a key node on the corridor.
The project extends Nio’s energy network into remote areas with limited grid coverage. It demonstrates the company’s off-grid battery-swapping model and offers a blueprint for future expansion.
As of late September, Nio operated more than 4,100 swap stations across China. The company is the world’s largest battery-swap network operator.
