Microsoft has formed Xbox XP, a new entertainment division focused on expanding its video game franchises into other media. Kayleen Walters, who previously worked at Minecraft developer Mojang and Lucasfilm, will lead the division.

Xbox XP will focus on four areas: Xbox Pictures for film and television, Xbox Products for merchandise, Xbox Places for live events and theme parks, and Xbox Partnerships for brand collaborations.

The move formalizes Microsoft’s plans to build Xbox into a broader entertainment brand using its intellectual property, including Halo and Fallout. The Fallout TV series on Amazon Prime Video is a recent example of the potential of game adaptations.

Microsoft is also reportedly working on an animated Netflix series based on Diablo and a Call of Duty movie.
