Meta Platforms has launched a desktop version of Instagram’s video-editing app, Edits, stepping up competition with ByteDance’s CapCut.

The move aims to attract serious video creators with a more robust editing experience on a larger screen and keep them in Instagram’s ecosystem rather than losing them to third-party tools. Edits first launched for mobile in April 2025.

The desktop version includes multi-track timelines, keyboard shortcuts, and project syncing between devices. The release is part of Meta’s broader effort to give creators a comprehensive suite of tools and rival the functionality that has helped make CapCut a dominant video-editing app.
