Eli Lilly reported positive topline results from its TRANSCEND-T2D-2 Phase 3 trial. In adults with type 2 diabetes, experimental drug retatrutide reduced blood sugar and weight more than Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic at its 2 mg dose.

At 80 weeks, average A1C fell 2.2% among patients taking retatrutide. The Ozempic group’s average A1C fell 1.8%.

Patients in the retatrutide groups lost an average of 44 to 47 pounds, or 20% to 21% of their body weight. Patients taking Ozempic lost an average of 21 pounds, or 9% of their body weight.

Lilly executives said they believe retatrutide, if approved, could shift the treatment paradigm for people with type 2 diabetes and obesity.
