Iberdrola España and bp secured approval to reallocate €211 million from the IPCEI Hy2USE program. This funding will expand green hydrogen production at bp’s Castellón refinery.
The companies formed a strategic alliance to replace natural gas with renewable energy in industrial processes. The facility will supply green hydrogen to hard-to-decarbonize sectors, including the ceramics and chemical industries.
The project received an additional €15 million from NextGenerationEU funds. Production is scheduled to begin before the end of 2024. The facility is expected to become Spain’s largest operational green hydrogen plant by 2026.
