The U.S. Treasury Department announced a regulation that will automatically enroll more than 60 million children in Trump Accounts, a new tax-advantaged investment vehicle. The rule is expected to take effect around October 1, 2026, replacing an opt-in system that required parents or guardians to sign up. The change aims to broaden participation and access to the savings program.
Accounts will be created automatically, but parents must still claim them. Claiming is required to receive a one-time $1,000 federal contribution for children born between 2025 and 2028. It also enables parents, family members and employers to contribute. Some large corporations have already committed to contributing to employees’ accounts as a new benefit.
