GSK announced Wednesday that it could cut as many as 1,217 jobs in Belgium as part of its global restructuring plan. The proposed cuts would affect its vaccine-related sites in Wavre, Rixensart and Gembloux.

The reductions would primarily affect management and other white-collar positions, while factory-floor workers would be excluded.

The plan is part of a three-year cost-saving program launched in July. GSK aims to save £1.9 billion annually by 2029 through simplifying its organization, increasing automation and redirecting resources to its late-stage pipeline of medicines and vaccines.

GSK said it will remain Belgium’s largest biopharmaceutical employer.
