Alphabet’s Google and Constellation Energy announced a long-term clean-energy agreement to add nuclear capacity to the PJM grid, which serves the mid-Atlantic and Midwestern United States.

The deal includes a 20-year power purchase agreement for 890 megawatts of new capacity. The capacity will come from 11 of Constellation’s nuclear units. A broader agreement covers a total of 3,590 megawatts.

The agreement responds to the growing energy demands of Google’s artificial intelligence and data center operations. Constellation plans to invest more than $4.3 billion to upgrade its existing reactors, providing Google with a reliable, carbon-free power source.

Constellation will also use Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise to develop an AI for Energy model to optimize grid operations and improve resiliency. The deal reflects a broader trend of major technology companies investing in energy infrastructure to support expanding AI capabilities.
