President Donald Trump stated at a rally in South Carolina that he had called Google CEO Sundar Pichai to discuss renaming the Atlantic Ocean on Google Maps. Trump recounted that Pichai declined the request, explaining that oceans are different from other geographical features because they border many countries.

The President told his supporters that following the conversation with Pichai, he would "probably pass" on the idea of renaming the Atlantic. The discussion follows previous instances where names of bodies of water, such as the Gulf of Mexico, were changed on Google Maps for U.S. users following executive orders. Google has not publicly confirmed the call took place.
