A federal judge in New York ruled that Alphabet’s Google must face more than $3.2 billion in publisher damage claims in a lawsuit alleging it monopolized the ad-tech market. The ruling allows jury trials to proceed to determine damages owed to publishers.
USA Today Co. can seek approximately $900 million, while Daily Mail General and Trust Plc can seek approximately $600 million. A class-action group of about 5,000 other publishers can collectively seek around $1.7 billion.
U.S. District Judge P. Kevin Castel issued the decision following an earlier federal court finding that Google illegally dominated the ad-tech market. Google succeeded in dismissing some minor claims, but the core allegations concerning its AdX advertising exchange will proceed.
