Alphabet's Google and Constellation Energy have entered a long-term strategic collaboration to add 890 megawatts of new nuclear capacity to the PJM grid. PJM serves 13 eastern states.
The collaboration includes a 20-year power purchase agreement. It will fund more than $4.3 billion in upgrades to Constellation's existing nuclear facilities. The work will cover 11 facilities in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
The added capacity will provide firm, carbon-free power for Google's growing energy needs without building new reactors from scratch. The first additional capacity is expected by 2028.
Constellation will also use Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise AI to enhance its energy operations, accelerate capacity delivery and optimize the grid.
