Anthropic has released Claude Sonnet 5.5, the second model in its 5.5 family and an upgrade to its mid-tier offering. It generates outputs more than 30% faster than Sonnet 5, its predecessor, and can reduce costs by up to 30% for most tasks. API pricing is unchanged; savings come from greater efficiency, with fewer tokens needed to complete the same work.
Anthropic positions Sonnet 5.5 as a workhorse for everyday enterprise tasks, including coding, document creation and interface design. It complements the more powerful Opus 5.5 and gives businesses a more cost-effective balance of performance and speed, intensifying competition in the AI sector.
Anthropic also said Haiku 5.5, the most affordable model in its lineup, will be released in the coming weeks.
