Gilead Sciences reported positive results from the Phase 2 SWIFT study of emvistegrast, an experimental once-daily oral pill for moderate to severe ulcerative colitis. The trial met its primary goal: after 12 weeks, 66% of patients taking 200 mg had a clinical response, compared with 37% of patients taking placebo.
Clinical remission was achieved by 31% of patients treated with emvistegrast, versus 8% of those receiving placebo. The drug targets the α4β7 integrin pathway and was generally well-tolerated.
Gilead plans to advance emvistegrast to a Phase 3 trial in 2027.
