Gilead Sciences partnered with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to increase access to lenacapavir. This twice-yearly injectable drug provides pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention.

The agreement utilizes PAHO's Regional Revolving Funds to distribute the treatment across 14 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. This initiative supports national efforts to adopt and implement long-acting preventative therapies.

New HIV infections in the region increased by 13% between 2010 and 2024. The collaboration addresses persistent gaps in PrEP coverage and builds on data from Gilead's PURPOSE 2 clinical trial.

This move complements Gilead's existing voluntary licensing agreements. The strategy aims to ensure wide and sustainable access to innovative HIV therapies.
