GE Aerospace and Kratos Defense & Security Solutions received the U.S. military type designation F143-ZZ-100 for their jointly developed GEK800 engine. The United States Air Force awarded the partnership an Engineering, Manufacturing and Development (EMD) contract.
The F143 engine will serve as a second-source propulsion system for the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) program. This turbofan engine produces 800 pounds of thrust. It is designed for long-range missiles and various uncrewed platforms.
The award supports the reindustrialization of U.S. manufacturing capacity for advanced jet engines. Separately, General Electric is investigating claims of a data breach by the Clop ransomware gang.
