Anduril has secured a U.S. Navy contract worth up to $2.9 billion to manufacture components for Virginia-class submarines. The deal is part of a broader effort to address capacity shortfalls and speed production of the nuclear-powered attack submarines, which General Dynamics and Huntington Ingalls Industries currently build.
Anduril will invest $3.7 billion of its own capital to build a new shipyard in Baltimore County, Maryland. The 2 million-square-foot facility, named Arsenal-2, is expected to begin operations in 2030 and create more than 3,100 jobs.
The announcement came days after Anduril co-founder Palmer Luckey was named to a new Pentagon task force focused on future weapons development.
