Global gold-backed ETFs attracted nearly $18 billion in August 2026. The World Gold Council released these figures on September 10, 2026. This surge represents the second-largest monthly inflow on record.

Collective gold holdings rose by 121 tonnes during the month. Total holdings reached an all-time high of 4,189 tonnes. Total assets under management increased 16% in August. Global gold ETF assets reached a total value of $615 billion.

European-listed funds saw record monthly inflows of $7.9 billion. North American funds attracted $7.7 billion. This figure marks the third-largest monthly total for the North American region.

The WGC attributed the demand to investor concerns over currency policy and fiscal sustainability. Gold prices remained stable near $4,400 per ounce. The metal weathered a 25 basis point European Central Bank rate hike without a significant price reaction.
