Argentina LNG has formally applied to join the country’s Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI). The joint venture consists of Italy’s Eni, Argentina’s state-owned YPF, and the UAE’s XRG.
The project aims to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) derived from the Vaca Muerta shale formation. Plans include the installation of two floating LNG units off the coast of Río Negro province. These units will have a combined capacity of 12 million tonnes per year.
The total investment over the project's lifetime is estimated at $51 billion. This represents the largest initiative submitted to the RIGI program to date. The framework provides long-term fiscal, customs, and foreign exchange stability for the developers.
The partners are targeting a final investment decision by the end of 2026. This milestone depends on obtaining the incentives required to attract significant international financing.
