Enbridge reported that a fire in Ashland County, northern Wisconsin, destroyed a drill rig and other equipment used for the $1 billion project to reroute its Line 5 oil and gas pipeline. No injuries were reported.
The company called the fire a “major act of vandalism” and said it was the second such incident to affect the project’s construction equipment.
The fire follows two other fires targeting Enbridge in the prior month. The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are investigating those earlier incidents. Enbridge said it is cooperating fully with authorities investigating the events.
