Leonardo DRS secured a contract with Doosan Enerbility to provide integrated electric propulsion systems for the Republic of Korea Navy. The agreement supports South Korea’s next-generation KDDX destroyer program. This initiative will produce the nation's first all-electric-drive surface combatants.
The KDDX program includes at least six guided-missile destroyers. Leonardo DRS will supply 100-Series permanent-magnet motors and compact variable-frequency drives. These components optimize torque while reducing the system's physical footprint.
The propulsion architecture provides scalable power for advanced combat and sensor systems. This integrated system meets the high-power demands of future naval missions. No immediate market reaction followed the announcement.
