AstraZeneca and partner Amgen reported positive Phase III CROSSING trial results for Tezspire. The drug met all primary endpoints for treating eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), a chronic inflammatory disorder of the esophagus. The study demonstrated statistically significant improvements in tissue-level inflammation and swallowing difficulty compared to a placebo.
Tezspire is already approved for severe asthma. This success marks the third epithelial-driven inflammatory disease where the drug has shown efficacy. The results reinforce the drug's mechanism of action and provide a boost to the company’s pipeline following recent clinical setbacks.
AstraZeneca shares traded slightly lower despite the clinical success. Analysts suggest investors remain focused on upcoming data from two major cancer trials. These oncology results are viewed as more critical to the company’s primary growth targets.
