AbbVie has completed negotiations with the pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance (pCPA) for ELAHERE®, a treatment for adults with folate receptor-alpha (FRα)-positive, platinum-resistant epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer. The signing of a Letter of Intent marks a step toward securing public reimbursement for the drug across Canada.
ELAHERE is the first novel targeted monotherapy to show a statistically significant overall survival benefit compared with chemotherapy for this patient group.
Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death from gynecological cancers in Canada. Many patients develop platinum-resistant disease, which is difficult to treat. The agreement paves the way for broader access to a treatment option for eligible patients.
