India’s Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has escalated an investigation into Apple’s software warranty terms. The probe follows consumer complaints that the iOS 18 update caused hardware malfunctions in iPhone screens and microphones.

Users report being forced to pay for expensive repairs for issues appearing immediately after the software update. Apple defends its policy of providing software without a warranty as a global industry standard.

The company stated it found no systemic issues with iOS 18 and will cooperate with the investigation. Apple faces potential fines, mandatory refunds, or forced changes to its Indian warranty policies if found in violation of consumer rights.
