Samsung SDI returned to profitability in the second quarter of 2026. The company ended a streak of seven consecutive quarterly losses. Operating profit reached 203.8 billion won on revenue of 3.77 trillion won. These results exceeded market expectations.

Strong sales of high-power batteries for AI data centers drove the turnaround. Growth in energy storage systems and recovering European electric vehicle demand also supported earnings. The company recorded 107.7 billion won in U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Production Credits.

Samsung SDI stated it would have achieved profitability even without these tax benefits. The performance signals a fundamental improvement in core business operations. All three of South Korea’s major battery manufacturers returned to profit this quarter.
