Samsung SDI’s U.S. subsidiary has secured an additional 1-gigawatt-hour (GWh) energy storage system (ESS) supply deal with Alpha Omega Power. The agreement brings the companies’ total commitment to 1.5 GWh, including a previous contract.
The deal covers Samsung Battery Box (SBB) 1.7 systems, which use nickel-cobalt-aluminum (NCA) prismatic batteries. Samsung SDI will manufacture the systems at the StarPlus Energy plant in Indiana, with delivery scheduled by the end of 2026.
Alpha Omega Power plans to deploy the systems in large-scale power projects in Texas and the western U.S. to enhance grid reliability. The deal reinforces Samsung SDI’s position as the only non-Chinese supplier of prismatic ESS batteries in North America.
