Samsung Electronics’ Device eXperience (DX) division reported its first-ever quarterly operating loss in the second quarter of 2026. The division's operating loss totaled 800 billion won. The company achieved record-high total quarterly revenue and operating profit during the same period.

The Mobile eXperience (MX) unit led the division's downturn with an operating loss of 700 billion won. Samsung attributed the loss to soaring memory semiconductor prices, a phenomenon known as chipflation. These component costs erased profits despite strong sales of Galaxy S26 and A-series smartphones.

The Device Solutions (DS) chip division posted a record operating profit of 89.2 trillion won. High demand and elevated prices for memory chips fueled the semiconductor performance. This boom in the component business directly reduced profitability for the consumer electronics arm.
