Samsung Electronics workers from the smartphone, television, and home appliance divisions plan a rally on July 16. They will protest a significant bonus disparity with the company's semiconductor division. Between 2,000 and 3,000 employees are expected to participate near Samsung's Suwon headquarters. This action highlights growing internal friction over compensation.

The dispute originates from a wage deal. Chip division employees could receive bonuses of up to 600 million won, or roughly $400,000. Consumer electronics colleagues are set to receive around 6 million won in treasury shares. This represents a hundred-fold difference. The semiconductor unit's surging profitability, driven by the AI boom, accounts for this disparity. A separate union, representing non-chip workers, argues their divisions' contributions are being overlooked. These contributions occurred during leaner times for the semiconductor business.
