Hapag-Lloyd submitted a revised proposal to acquire ZIM Integrated Shipping Services, seeking approval from the Israeli government. The changes address concerns over national security and the preservation of strategic maritime assets.
The revised terms would strengthen ZIM Israel, a new entity to be carved out of the deal. They include adding a shipping route to Asia, providing the company with a modern fleet, and investing in Israeli maritime personnel to help ensure the country’s access to critical shipping lanes.
The cash transaction, valued at approximately $4.2 billion, was announced in February. The acquisition requires shareholder and regulatory approval and is expected to close by the end of 2026.
