The U.S. Federal Trade Commission and five states settled an antitrust lawsuit against Zillow and Redfin. Regulators alleged Zillow paid Redfin $100 million in February 2025 to cease competing in the apartment rental market. Redfin reportedly agreed to display Zillow's listings exclusively under the contested agreement.
Redfin must rebuild its independent rental advertising business within six months to restore market competition. The companies will continue syndicating multifamily rental listings across both platforms until at least June 30, 2030.
An amended agreement permits both companies to offer standalone multifamily advertising products starting in 2027. Zillow admitted no liability as part of the settlement.
