Xpeng has begun small-batch production of solid-state batteries designed for its Iron humanoid robot. The milestone comes ahead of the robot’s planned mass production by the end of 2026.
Xpeng Vice President Gu Jie confirmed the development. He said the batteries are designed with high energy density to fit within the robot’s confined space and include technology intended to prevent thermal runaway.
The Iron robot itself has not yet reached the start of production (SOP). Xpeng is targeting commercial deployment in 2027, including in retail stores where the robot could assist shoppers.
The battery production marks progress in Xpeng’s broader push into what it calls Physical AI and its effort to build a replicable framework for commercializing the technology.
