Tesla has begun mass production of its long-awaited electric Semi and made its first significant deliveries. The company announced the launch at an event at its Nevada Gigafactory.
The launch comes nearly nine years after Tesla first unveiled the truck. Limited deliveries began in 2022.
Diesel costs are rising sharply, with the national average nearing record highs. That pressure could increase interest in electrifying commercial fleets.
PepsiCo, DHL and US Foods are among the first companies set to receive the trucks, signaling commercial interest.
Tesla is producing two versions of the Semi. One has a range of 325 miles, and the other has a range of 500 miles. The company is also deploying a network of high-powered Megachargers.
The Nevada facility has an eventual production target of 50,000 trucks per year. If reached, that level would represent a substantial shift for the logistics and transportation sector.
