The Financial Stability Board (FSB), which coordinates financial regulation across major economies, published a final report on October 15, 2026. It outlines 12 non-binding practices to help financial institutions adopt artificial intelligence responsibly.

The toolkit is designed for banks, insurers, and asset managers. It addresses risks associated with complex AI, including explainability, autonomous agentic actions, cyber threats, and “shadow AI” developed outside approved IT frameworks.

The report recognizes AI’s potential benefits, including enhanced fraud detection and credit risk assessment. It says institutional governance must evolve to keep pace with the technology.

The practices encourage firms to integrate AI risk management into existing enterprise frameworks. They cover strategic direction and accountability, as well as data governance, performance monitoring, and human oversight.

The FSB’s work signals a coordinated global effort to support financial stability as the sector’s reliance on AI deepens.
