Shares of W5 Solutions, the Swedish defense and security technology company, cratered 12.5% to SEK 22.35 on November 5 after the firm reported a deeply negative third quarter and slashed its full-year 2026 guidance, raising pointed questions about whether execution problems are temporary or structural. W5 Solutions Bleeds Cash and Slashes Outlook Again — Is the Defense Boom Enough to Save a Company That Cannot Deliver on Time?
Shares of Swedish defense-tech firm W5 Solutions plunged 12.5% to SEK 22.35 on November 5 after the company reported a third quarter marred by deepening losses, delayed shipments, and a second downward revision to its full-year forecast in barely five weeks — a pattern that is testing investor patience even as European defense spending surges.
Three Quarters of Losses Erase a Year's Worth of Profit. Q3 EBIT came in at SEK -27.1 million, a stark reversal from SEK 1.3 million a year earlier.
Revenue rose 74.8% to SEK 141.6 million , but that figure fell short of the roughly 90% growth the company itself had signaled just weeks ago in its preliminary update. Gross margin collapsed to 49.0% from 85.9% a year ago , illustrating that W5 is scaling revenue by taking on work it struggles to deliver profitably. For comparison, full-year 2025 EBIT was SEK 38 million — the cumulative losses through Q3 2026 have already obliterated that entire base.
The Guidance Keeps Getting Worse. In late September, W5 initially guided for 2026 revenue growth of 60–70%. The Q3 report now cuts that to 50–60%, with full-year EBIT of SEK -25 million to -35 million — a dramatic swing from the September preliminary estimate of EBIT of roughly SEK -10 million to zero. Two downgrades in five weeks signals management has limited visibility on when postponed deliveries will convert to recognized revenue.
Cash Is Running Low, and Dilution Is Already Here. W5 raised SEK 165 million in a directed share issue at SEK 24 per share in late September , diluting existing shareholders by roughly 26%.
Proceeds were earmarked to reduce debt and bolster financial flexibility — not to fund growth. With Q3 operating cash flow at SEK -44.2 million, the fresh capital is being consumed fast. The stock now trades below the issue price, signaling the market views even that discounted raise as overvalued.
A Strong Order Book Means Nothing If You Cannot Ship. Order intake hit SEK 138 million in Q3, up from SEK 115 million in Q2 , and W5 targets SEK 1 billion in sales with a 10% EBIT margin by 2027. Yet the company has only just launched a cost-cutting program targeting SEK 30 million in savings next year , while Q2 already flagged higher purchase prices and lead-time challenges. Until W5 proves it can convert backlog into profitable, on-time shipments, the 2027 targets look aspirational at best.
