Universal Music Group, Sony Music, and Warner Music Group voluntarily dropped their copyright infringement lawsuit against Verizon Communications. The music publishers originally sought over $2 billion in potential damages.

The labels accused Verizon of failing to take sufficient action against subscribers illegally sharing music online. This dismissal follows a recent US Supreme Court decision in a similar case involving Cox Communications.

The Supreme Court ruling significantly limited the liability of internet service providers for copyright infringement committed by their users. The court dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice, preventing the music labels from refiling these specific claims against Verizon.
