Vertiv accounted for 42% of initial data-center liquid-cooling patent filings in 2024, according to a GlobalData analysis. Its share was 3% in 2021, marking a sharp rise in patent activity and a shift in research and development leadership in the sector.
The increase comes as artificial intelligence and high-performance computing drive up heat densities in data centers, increasing the need for advanced thermal management. Liquid cooling is becoming essential to meet that demand.
Competitors’ patent filings remained relatively flat. Vertiv’s increased activity has positioned it as a key innovator in data-center liquid cooling.
