SK Hynix reported record third-quarter results, driven by demand for its high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips used in artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Operating profit reached 83.33 trillion won (approximately $62 billion). That was a 632% increase year over year and far exceeded expectations.

The South Korean chipmaker also announced a 100 trillion won (approximately $75 billion) shareholder return program. The earnings and capital return plan signal management’s confidence in sustained long-term growth in the AI sector.

The KOSPI surged more than 6%, prompting a temporary trading halt. The news also lifted sentiment across global technology and semiconductor sectors and boosted U.S. tech futures before the market open.
