Indonesia’s Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) confirmed it would begin reducing natural gas exports to Singapore on October 24, 2026.

The reductions total 31 billion British thermal units per day (BBTUD). Natuna gas fields account for 15 BBTUD of the cuts. Sumatra accounts for 16 BBTUD.

The move follows recent statements by Indonesian officials, including President Prabowo Subianto, emphasizing the need to prioritize domestic energy needs and protect national resources. It may signal a shift in Indonesia’s long-term export strategy and highlights rising geopolitical risks in regional energy markets.

Although the volume is not significant globally, the cuts represent a tangible disruption for Singapore and show the government prioritizing domestic policy over existing export arrangements.
