Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced that crude pumping had resumed through the pipeline connecting Al-Sharara, the country’s largest oilfield, to the Zawiya export terminal. An armed group shut the pipeline on September 21. The NOC said the disruption caused losses of approximately $95 million.

The blockage significantly reduced output from the Sharara field. Reopening the pipeline removes a constraint on Libyan oil supply, which global energy markets closely watch. Disruptions and their resolution in Libya can contribute to oil-price volatility.

Akakus operates the pipeline as a joint venture involving the NOC and international energy companies TotalEnergies, Repsol, OMV, and Equinor.
