Walmart CEO John Furner said today that the company will not use artificial intelligence or customers’ personal data to set individualized prices. The pledge comes as Walmart rolls out digital shelf labels across its stores nationwide, prompting concerns about dynamic pricing—prices that change based on shopping habits, demand or time of day.

“We don’t set different prices based on who you are or the time of day, and we won’t,” Furner said. The policy also applies to Walmart’s AI-powered shopping assistant: customers will see the same price for the same product.

The pledge reinforces Walmart’s “every day low prices” model amid growing consumer and regulatory scrutiny of AI use in retail.
