Germany’s Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil will meet UniCredit CEO Andrea Orcel to outline specific requirements for a Commerzbank acquisition.
Berlin demands that Commerzbank remains listed on the Frankfurt stock exchange. The government also insists that financing for Germany’s medium-sized companies continues without interruption.
Additional conditions include a ban on forced redundancies. The German government currently holds a 12% stake in Commerzbank. Berlin may also seek the right to appoint two non-executive directors.
These negotiations follow a statement from Commerzbank’s CEO last week confirming that constructive talks are underway.
