Uber, WeRide, and AVOMO have secured Spain's first national permit for Level 4 autonomous passenger vehicles. The Directorate General of Traffic authorized the companies to begin testing and mapping across the Madrid region.
The initial phase features a fleet of 20 WeRide GXR autonomous vehicles. In-car specialists will monitor the fleet during all testing operations.
The partnership aims for a commercial ride-hailing launch in Madrid by the end of 2026. This expansion represents the fourth city in the global strategic partnership between Uber and WeRide.
