United Airlines and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority unveiled a $20 billion transformation of Washington Dulles International Airport. United currently handles approximately two-thirds of the airport's passenger traffic. The airline will help finance the massive overhaul alongside the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The multi-year plan adds 5 million square feet of new or redeveloped space. Developers will replace all four existing concourses to modernize the infrastructure. The project expands the underground AeroTrain to eliminate the current mobile lounge system. New features include a pedestrian tunnel and parking facilities located closer to the main terminal.

CEO Scott Kirby announced the investment at the White House. This project follows similar United Airlines hub expansions in Denver and Houston.
