Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is accelerating its 2-nanometer (2nm) production expansion as demand from major clients rises. Apple, Nvidia, AMD and Qualcomm have reportedly increased their 2nm orders by 10% to 20%, driven by demand for advanced chips for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.
TSMC is now expected to produce 120,000 2nm wafers per month by the end of 2026. Earlier estimates put monthly output at 90,000 to 100,000 wafers.
The expansion would be the fastest production ramp-up in the company’s history. It would also bring forward by two years TSMC’s original 2027 capacity goals.
First-year 2nm output is projected to be 45% higher than first-year output for the 3nm generation.
