Tesla has been selected as the primary manufacturer in a historic order for 2,500 battery-electric Class 8 trucks, an agreement poised to nearly double the number of such vehicles on U.S. roads. The deal was organized by the Zero-Emission Truck Shipper-Carrier Alliance Leading Electrification (ZET SCALE), a coalition of shippers and carriers including Microsoft and PepsiCo.
The alliance chose Tesla after evaluating proposals from various truck makers based on price, range, charging capability, and production capacity. While Tesla is the lead supplier, carriers within the alliance will also have the option to choose trucks from secondary manufacturers, including Kenworth, Volvo, and RIDE. The first trucks from this landmark order are expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2026.
