Tesla is recalling 2.74 million Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in China. The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) mandated a driver-assistance software update.
Regulators determined that existing steering wheel input detection was insufficient for driver attentiveness. Tesla will address the safety concern through an immediate over-the-air (OTA) software update.
The update adds cabin-camera monitoring to track driver focus while Autopilot is active. This enhancement aims to reduce collision risks by ensuring prompt driver responses.
Tesla is also performing a separate recall of nearly 3 million vehicles in China. The second recall addresses mechanical issues with emergency door handles.
